Post stitches are formed by working our hook around the post of the indicated stitch, rather than into the head of the stitch. This pulls the post of that stitch up to the surface and adds texture to the crocheted fabric.

The post of the stitch is the part of the stitch from the bottom of the head to the base.

Let’s take a close look on how to make Back Post double crochet stitches (BPdc):

   1. Yarn over, insert your hook from back to front of indicated stitch post.

   2. And then to back again around the same stitch post.

   3. Yarn over and draw up a loop, bringing the hook back around the post of the stitch (3 loops on hook).

   4. Complete the stitch as a double crochet stitch: yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (2 loops remain on hook), yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (double crochet stitch completed).

You can combine Back Post and Front Post stitches to create a double sided textured fabric.

My Ziggy Blanket use Front and Back post stitches that move right and then left on both sides of the fabric. So Charming!

I hope you enjoy making this beautiful textured stitch.
